Banksy painted his anti-immigration birds piece in Clacton-on-Sea in 2014. This was around the same time that Douglas Carswell was running to be UKIP's first MP in Clacton - he later won the vote.
Clacton council removed Banksy's work after their received a complaint that it was offensive and racist - perhaps missing the satirical nature of the street art.
